Two people were injured and two families comprising six people displaced following an apartment fire this morning in the Wilkens area.

Fire crews were dispatched at 6:26 a.m. to the 4300 block of Alan Drive, 21229, for an apartment fire with rescue. First-arriving units found several people trapped and calling for help from upper-story windows. 

Commanders called for a second alarm at 6:40 a.m. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire and called it under control at 6:59 a.m.

Crews from Catonsville and Halethorpe stations rescued the trapped residents from a rear bedroom window; the front of the apartment was filled with smoke.

Two young adult women were transported to University of Maryland Medical Center, one with minor injuries and one with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The Red Cross responded to assist with the displaced residents.

Two cats died in the fire.

 BCoPD fire investigators concluded that the fire was accidental and started on a stovetop in one of the upper story apartments.
