An altercation between passengers of two cars at Sunnyside Lane and Reed Place in Longmont quickly turned violent Thursday night, resulting in one of the passengers being shot in the upper back.
Officer Cary McDonald said Longmont police were still in an informational gathering stage around 10 p.m. and didn’t know what led up to the altercation or what kind of gun was used.
However, they believe one of three male assailants in a gray or tan Chevy pickup truck produced a gun at 8:10 p.m. and shot one of two male passengers in a white sedan.
After being shot at, the driver of the white sedan attempted to escape but crashed the car. At that point the two men inside attempted to flee on foot. Once police contacted them, the victim was taken to the Longmont United Hospital, where he was in stable condition Thursday night.
Police did not release any information about the victim, including his name and age, nor did they release any description of the suspects in the pickup.
The truck sped off from the scene and was at large.
The investigation led to closures of intersections and roads in the area, and the SWAT team also responded.
