A man who allegedly mumbled “want to watch the world burn” just before torching a Lakewood barn where six horses and a dog were killed was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison.

Earnest Sunday Maynes, 38, pleaded guilty in Jefferson County District Court last month to two counts of arson, eight counts of animal cruelty and one count of criminal mischief.

Maynes set eight fires at different locations in a neighborhood near 5405 W. Third Ave., on April 28, according to prosecutors.

A former roommate of Maynes tipped off investigators about his connection to the fires after Maynes was acting suspiciously and mumbling troubling statements, including “gonna blow things up,” according to an arrest affidavit.
