Sen. Bernie Sanders is coming to Denver in September to rally with supporters, his campaign announced Saturday in a news release.
The Sept. 9 rally at Civic Center park will be the presidential candidate’s first visit to Colorado during the 2020 campaign.
The Vermont senator is narrowly leading the state’s Democratic primary field, according to a recent poll. Sanders garnered 26% in the Emerson College poll, inching out former Vice President Joe Biden by one percentage point.
Sanders has polled near the top of Democratic presidential hopefuls since the onset of the race, trailing Biden in most surveys.
In 2016, Sanders received nearly 60% of the vote in the Colorado caucuses, besting eventual nominee, Hillary Clinton.
The Sept. 9 event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, but the campaign encouraged interested people to RSVP.
