A severe thunderstorm, including 16 inches of hail and flash flooding, pounded Spinney Mountain and Eleven Mile state parks late Tuesday night. Access to Spinney has been shut down because of road damage.
Spinney Mountain received the brunt of the storm, and the south boat ramp has been damaged, according to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife news release.
The gate to Spinney Mountain Access Road is closed, and the road is impassable. The Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area parking lot is accessible, but the access road below the dam is closed. Reopening of the access road will be assessed daily, and no definitive timetable has been set.
Eleven Mile remains open on both shores, although there are impacts to several campgrounds on the south side, the release said. No campground reservations have been affected at Eleven Mile.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and to expect debris and road damage along Park County Roads 92 and 59.
