De Baca County, NM– On November 7, 2019 at about 3:45 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal head-on crash on US60, near Mile Post 334, east of Fort Sumner, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2005 Kia driven by David Lucio (50) of Clovis, NM was traveling west on US60. For unknown reasons the Kia crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic of the eastbound lane where it collided head-on into a 2015 Mack Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) traveling east. The CMV was driven by a fifty-seven-year-old male out of Carlsbad, NM. The driver of the Kia, Lucio was ejected. Lucio sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. The driver of the CMV was uninjured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have not been utilized properly. The driver’s name of the CMV will not be released due to no charges been filed. No additional information is available.
