A 35-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a Nov. 27 stabbing that left a 7-Eleven owner dead in his store, the Denver District Attorney said in a Wednesday news release.
Bereket Cholo is being held without bond in the Downtown Detention Center for allegedly stabbing his boss in the neck at a 7-Eleven on the 7600 block of East Colfax Avenue, the release said. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as Tamerat Abebe, 43, and said in a news release that he died of stab wounds.
Abebe, the store’s owner, and Cholo, a manager at the store, were arguing over money on Nov. 27 when the confrontation escalated. The two men argued behind the registers and then they moved to the front door, a Denver Police Department probable cause statement said.
Cholo allegedly stabbed Abebe at the front door and left, leaving the store owner on the floor. Abebe was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Cholo is scheduled to appear in court for his first advisement at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
