Altercation Over Tools in Las Vegas Leads to Shooting, Sending One Man to the Hospital and One Man to Jail
Las Vegas, NM - On January 2, 2020, at around 6:30 a.m., New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau Agents were called to Alta Vista Regional Hospital for a male who had a gunshot wound to the stomach. The gunshot victim claimed that he had went to the house of Kelvin Jeffrey (26) located at 4 Sir Jeffery Lane in Las Vegas to retrieve some of his tools. When he arrived and knocked on the door Jeffrey refused to give him the tools back and then shot him through the door. The victim had a friend drive him to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.

During the investigation, agents located Jeffrey, who claimed that he heard a knock at his front door and didn’t know who it was, he thought someone was trying to break into his house, so he fired his handgun through the door at them. After further investigation Jeffrey was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery (use of deadly weapon) (3rd Degree felony) and Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon (knowingly endangering person or property) (petty Misdemeanor). Jeffrey was booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center.

The victim who will not be identified was treated and released from the hospital. This case remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau with no additional information currently available.
