An 83-year-old man died from injuries suffered in a skiing accident Monday at Aspen Snowmass in which officials believe he skied off the deck of a half-pipe.

The Ptikin County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the man as George Cort, according to the Aspen Times.

The Montrose man was found unconscious around 9:15 a.m. Monday in the half-pipe at Snowmass, according to a statement from Jeff Hanle, spokesman for the ski resort.

The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Hanle said. The ski patrol responded, initiated trauma protocol and transported him to an ambulance.

Cort died of multiple blunt force injuries and his manner of death was accidental, the coroner’s office said.

“We learned later from his family that he had been transferred to St, Anthony’s Hospital in Denver and died Wednesday evening,” Hanle said. “Our deepest sympathies are with his family at this time.”
