One Less Gun: At about 7:27 PM on Monday November 16, 2020, officers assigned to the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested three suspects while recovering six illegal firearms in the area of Wainwright Park in Dorchester. The officers had approached a large group of approximately thirty males who were gathered inside the park as part of an ongoing firearm investigation. Specifically, the officers were aware that Jacari Drayton, 29, of Roxbury was in possession of tan colored Glock19x with a large capacity 30 round magazine. This firearm was also equipped with an aftermarket “sear selector switch” which is capable of turning the weapon into a fully automatic machine gun. Officers stopped the suspect and performed a frisk with negative results but soon located and recovered the Glock 19x from inside of a nearby trash barrel. The suspect was immediately placed into custody without incident. Officers soon recovered a loaded .357 magnum Smith and Wesson revolver which had been discarded on the ground as well as a loaded .38 special Smith and Wesson revolver from underneath a parked car and a loaded 9mm P80 “ghost gun” (no serial number or identifying markers) from inside of a different unlocked and unattended motor vehicle. Several additional units were called to the scene to assist the officers with the group who were becoming increasingly more aggressive with the officers conducting the investigation, swearing and berating them as they attempted to safely recover the multiple loaded firearms.
As the officers continued their investigation, one of the males, later identified as Patrick Bishop, 21, of Chestnut Hill, attempted to break away from the group but was quickly stopped by officers on scene as he was observed discarding a loaded 9mm Kimber Solo Carry STS handgun which was quickly recovered by the officers. The second suspect was then placed in custody without incident. Officers also recovered a loaded .380 Glock 42 handgun equipped with a Streamlight laser site from the right-side jacket pocket of a third suspect, later identified as Nathan Bootman 23, of Randolph, following a pat frisk.
All three suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court for arraignment on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Additionally, Jacari Drayton will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun.
