At about 9:47 PM, on Sunday, November 22, 2020, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest after a traffic stop in the area of Washington Street and West Tremlett Street in Dorchester.  

Officers responded to a shot spotter activation in the area of 30 Bradlee Street in Dorchester. While canvassing the area for potential victims or suspects, officers observed a motor vehicle with very dark tinted windows traveling on Washington Street towards Park Street. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop near the intersection of Washington Street and West Tremlett Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers observed the operator, later identified as Erick Rivera, 32, of Boston, lean forward toward the steering wheel.

Officers removed Rivera and the passenger, later identified as Dennis Ortiz, 26, of Dorchester from the motor vehicle in order to conduct a pat frisk for weapons. Officers observed the center console to have been manipulated from its original design with a loose panel and recovered a loaded Glock 23 with one round in the chamber and fourteen rounds in the magazine. Officers also noticed a screw driver placed on the front passenger seat and scratches around the plastic gear shift. Officers removed the gear shift panel and recovered a second loaded firearm. The Glock 43 had one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.

Rivera and Ortiz were both arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. They are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
