One Less Gun: At about 8:11 PM on Friday, December 4, 2020, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a traffic stop which led to the arrest of two males and the recovery of a loaded firearm in the area of 4600 Washington Street in Roslindale. While on patrol in the area of Mercedes View, officers observed a black Ford Fusion operating with excessively dark tinted windows. Unable to identify the number of occupants due to the dark windows, officers followed the vehicle as it exited the housing development and turned onto Washington Street driving towards the West Roxbury Parkway. A query of the vehicle led to the discovery that the registered owner did not possess a valid license to operate a vehicle in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The vehicle continued into the parking lot at 4594 Washington Street. Officers took note of the operator’s evasive driving, activating the right turn signal and turning in the opposite direction before making a 180 degree turn and pulling into a parking space. The officers activated their lights and sirens, initiating a traffic stop in the area of 4600 Washington Street. Offices approached the vehicle and were able to ascertain that the vehicle was occupied by two Hispanic males, a driver and a front passenger. Officers confirmed the identity of the operator as the owner of the vehicle who did not possess a license. Both the operator and the passenger were removed from the vehicle. Within the passenger’s compartment of the vehicle, officers located a loose panel on the dashboard which led to the recovery of a black Glock 26 Gen4 9mm firearm with an obliterated serial number loaded with ten rounds of live ammunition. The firearm, which was concealed within a sock, was secured and officers additionally recovered a ski mask from the backseat of the vehicle. Both the operator and passenger were taken into custody.
Officers arrested the operator Braulio Castillo, 21-years-old, of Jamaica Plain and the passenger, Angel Class, 21-years-old, of Hyde Park. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number. Castillo faces an additional charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.
