FIREARM SEIZED DURING INCIDENT #1

INCIDENT #1: At about 6:35 PM on Tuesday December 8, 2020 officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested two suspects while recovering a loaded firearm after responding to a call for a person with a gun inside a dark colored SUV in the area of 825 Morton Street in Mattapan. On arrival officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. As officers were speaking with the driver, later identified as Jaquori Lyons, 22, of Dorchester, they observed what appeared to be the magazine of a firearm protruding from the jacket pocket of the front seat passenger, later identified as Tymauri Smith, 19, of Dorchester. Officers immediately removed the passenger, placing him under arrest without incident while safely recovering the firearm which was determined to be a 9mm HK VP9 handgun equipped with a laser sight and an extended magazine loaded with twenty-seven rounds of ammunition and an additional round in the chamber. Officers continued their investigation and discovered that the operator did not possess a valid driver’s license at which time he too was placed in custody without incident.

Both suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court for arraignment. Tymauri Smith will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. Jaquori Lyons will be charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

INCIDENT #2: At about 6:55 PM on Tuesday December 8, 2020, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested two suspects following a traffic stop in the area of 1786 Washington Street in Roxbury which resulted in the recovery of a loaded firearm. The officers had approached a vehicle which was illegally parked and running in a clearly marked “No Standing” zone. Officers soon learned that the operator, Aaren Howard, 30, of Brockton, did not possess a valid driver’s license. As the officers were speaking with the driver, their attention was drawn to the front seat passenger, later identified as Anthony Austin, 24, of Dorchester, who made repeated attempts to reach for an unidentified item in his right-side pants pocket. When the officers attempted to remove and pat frisk both parties, the passenger suddenly became angered and attempted to flee resulting in a violent struggle. Officers were able to gain control of the suspect at which time they safely recovered a loaded .380 caliber Jimenez Arms Incorporated handgun from inside his zippered pants pocket. Officers also recovered a large amount of marijuana from inside a bag that the suspect was holding as he attempted to flee. The operator was placed in custody on scene without incident.

Both suspects will appear in Roxbury District Court for arraignment. Anthony Austin will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs and Resisting Arrest. Aaren Howard will be charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension.
