BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer Joseph C. Reiser 103 Years ago today. On Sunday, January 20, 1918, Officer Reiser was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a burglary suspect inside an apartment building on Jersey Street in the Fenway.

Officer Reiser was 34 years old at the time of his death and had been employed by the Boston Police Department for ten years. He was laid to rest at New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan.

His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, panel 2, east line 1, as well as the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Downtown Boston.

A Hero Sign has been placed in honor of Officer Reiser on Jersey Street in District D-4 (South End).
