At about 6:38 PM on Sunday February, 21, 2021, officers assigned to District A-7 (East Boston) made an onsite firearm related arrest after responding to a call for shots fired in the area of 186 Havre Street in East Boston.

On arrival officers began canvassing the area for ballistic evidence when their attention was drawn to an individual, later identified as a 30-year-old male from East Boston, standing on a fourth-floor balcony of the residence. A few moments later, several snowballs were thrown from the balcony area, missing the officers by inches. Officers made their way to the fourth floor and knocked on the apartment door where they were met by the same male party they had observed on the rear balcony. When officers asked for identification, he immediately attempted to shut the door. After officers made peaceful entry to the apartment, they observed an unsecured AK-47 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun and in plain view. Additionally, officers later located a 9mm Taurus handgun. Officers continued their investigation and determined that while the male did possess a valid firearm license, the AK-47 was not registered to him. It was later determined that the rifle had previously been reported stolen in 2016 in Holbrook, MA.

Officers later confirmed that the suspect had discharged the handgun once without causing injury to any bystanders or damage to property. It was also confirmed that the suspect had thrown the snowballs towards the officers as they searched for shell casings.

The suspect was placed in custody and has since been arraigned in East Boston District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling, Assault by Means and Improper Storage of a Firearm.
