At about 11:33 AM on Thursday March 11, 2021, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite firearm arrest during a traffic stop in the area of 353 Norfolk Street in Dorchester. The officers had stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction when they learned that the operator, later identified as Naythan Matos, 21, of Providence, RI, did not possess a valid driver’s license. As the officers attempted to remove the operator, he attempted to flee but was placed in custody following a brief foot pursuit. The officers then continued their investigation which led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm Glock 17 with an extended magazine as well as 45 oxycodone pills from inside the vehicle.
The suspect is expected to face arraignment in Dorchester District Court on multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Class B Drugs and Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle.
