At about 4:49 PM on Wednesday March 17, 2021, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Luis Morales, 21, of Dorchester on multiple charges after responding to a call for a person with a gun in the area of Winston Road in Dorchester. On approach, officers were advised that the suspect had been observed waving around a firearm before riding off on a rental ‘BLUEbikes’ bicycle towards Lucerne Street. On arrival, officers observed a male matching the given description. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect dismounted the bike and fled on foot towards the rear of 12/14 Winston Road with both hands clenching the waistband area of his pants. While canvassing the area with assistance from BPD K-9 Oz, his handler and additional responding units, officers observed the rear basement door of 4 Theodore Street to be slightly ajar. Officers made entry and observed the suspect crouching in a corner. He was placed in custody without further incident at which time officers located and recovered a 9mm Canik TP9 SF Elite handgun which had been discarded near where the suspect had been discovered. Officers later confirmed that the suspect did not reside in the building nor did he know any of the residents.

The suspect will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Breaking and Entering into a Building in Commission of a Felony.
