BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer George J. Hanley who died 87 years ago today on March 20, 1934. Officer Hanley passed away due to complications from injuries he sustained several years prior when he was struck by a police vehicle while on duty.
Officer Hanley was 46 years old at the time of his death and had served the department for 8 years. Officer Hanley was laid to rest at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.
Officer Hanley’s name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. as well as the Hero Wall at BPD Headquarters and the Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Downtown Boston.
