BPD Remembers: On March 21, 1936, Officer James B. Roche suffered a fatal heart attack while at the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

A 13-year veteran of the department, Officer Roche was 46-years-old at the time of his death. Officer Roche was laid to rest at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline and his name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial as well as the Hero Wall at BPD Headquarters and the Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Downtown Boston.

A Hero Sign is posted at the intersection of Faneuil Street and Harriet Street in Brighton to forever honor the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his city 85 years ago today.
