At about 3:37 AM on Tuesday June 29, 2021, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) arrested Kelby Jones, 47, of Boston after responding to a disturbance in the area of Beacon Street and Joy Street on Beacon Hill. The officers were on patrol when they observed two adult males engaged in an argument, as one of the males, later identified as the victim, began to flag down the officers. The victim stated that he had been walking through Downtown Crossing when he was approached by the suspect who began to threaten him while demanding money. Fearing for his safety, the victim handed the suspect five dollars but the suspect insisted he give him more. When the victim refused, a brief struggle broke out next to the suspect attempted to strike the victim and followed him to the Park Street MBTA Station where a brief struggle ensued. The victim was able to break away but the suspect continued to chase him while attempting to strike him up until the moment the officers arrived on scene.
The suspect was placed in custody without incident and will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Unarmed Robbery and Assault and Battery.
