At about 4:15 PM on July 2, 2021, officers assigned to the District A-7 Drug Control Unit (East Boston) conducted an investigation in the area of Howard Avenue and Wayland Street in Dorchester which resulted in the arrest of Garrick Garcia, 26, of Quincy on weapons charges.
While on directed patrol in the area of District B-2 (Roxbury) for the 4th of July weekend crime suppression, officers observed a light skinned male quickly walking towards a blue motor vehicle. Garcia entered the front passenger seat and could be seen making what appeared to be an unknown hand-to-hand transaction.
Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop of the motor vehicle at the intersection on Ceylon Street between Quincy Street and Columbia Road. After speaking with the licensed driver, Garcia became very nervous and began moving around in the passenger seat.
For officer safety, Garcia was removed from the motor vehicle. After a pat frisk a loaded firearm was recovered from Garcia. The firearm was determined to be a Taurus 9mm with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.
Garrick Garcia was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
