At about 10:30 PM on Friday July 17, 2021, members of the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 14-year-old male from East Boston on firearm related charges as part of an investigation in the area of Lombardi Memorial Park in East Boston. The officers were approaching a group of males who had gathered in the park when the suspect fled on foot while clutching the waistband area of his pants. As the officers pursued the suspect, he tripped and fell to the ground while crossing Liverpool Street. Simultaneously, the officers observed a firearm fall to the ground next to the suspect. The officers quickly gained control of the weapon and placed the suspect in custody as the now unruly group from the park began to gather around them. The firearm was later determined to be a loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun with a defaced serial number.

The suspect will appear in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number.
