At About 8:33 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021, Officers assigned to District B3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of 25 Orlando Street, Mattapan. Officers were able to make an onsite firearm arrest of Garfield Williams, 38, of Randolph, MA.

Officers responded to the area of 25 Orlando Street for a report of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, Officers observed multiple children and families participating in a back-to-school backpack giveaway in Almont Park. Officers also observed a large group in a private parking lot at the above location. As Officers approached the group, officers observed a vehicle with all of its windows open, with a male occupant inside the rear passenger seat. The male, later identified as Williams, exited the vehicle and began to walk away as Officers approached the vehicle. Officers had a clear view into the vehicle and observed the muzzle of a firearm, wrapped in a piece of clothing and protruding from underneath the seat. Officers were able to place Mr. Williams into custody without incident.

The firearm was determined to be a Taurus 9mm handgun loaded with three (3) rounds of .380 ammunition and eight (8) 9mm rounds in the magazine.

Williams is to be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carry Loaded Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID. 

Garfield Williams is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
